Mew Gallery presents You Will Always Have Your Self - more than 20 new pieces by Sarah Pohlman June 7 - July 18, 2008. Check out the opening reception Saturday, June 14th from 5 to 9 pm. Mew Gallery is located at 906 Christian Street in South Philadelphia.
This body of work distinctively documents my personal connections with the situations life presents me and my response to those situations through a visual mixed media-collage narrative. Outlining a year of upheaval, transformation, and unexpected outcomes, this work represents the inner thoughts and visual lexicon of my own mind in relation to things I could not initially control. As the work progresses there is a distinct change in mood to a position of empowerment and personal understanding, but also a definitive humbleness in regard to the unknown and the miniscule nature of my existence in the expanse of the universe. The work examines my self in microcosmic terms, within and related to macrocosmic context.
